Dessert: The Chocolate Room

‘Tis the season for hot cocoa!  I thought it was high time for another dessert post.  Speaking of dessert, I’m thinking of posting a Christmas/holiday dessert recipe this week. Any suggestions?  Yule log, perhaps?

Anyway, continuing on – after my hot dog excursion at Bark, I wandered into The Chocolate Room.  I was not familiar with The Chocolate Room at all, but with a name like that, how could I go wrong?

There are two Chocolate Room locations in Brooklyn – I visited the Park Slope branch.  The first thing I noticed about the menu was all chocolate, all the time – chocolate layer cake, pudding, brownie sundae, hot chocolate, fondue, and that’s just to start.  All this choice, and I had to narrow it down – poor, poor me, I know.  But SIGH, I made the sacrifice in the name of blogging.

Eating buddy and I started with an order of the hot chocolate (first picture), made with 60% bittersweet Belgian chocolate.   I admit that I’m pretty picky with my hot chocolate – I only like the thick, super-rich, coat your throat stuff.  The Chocolate Room’s version fit the bill – it was luxurious, not too sweet, and decadently heavy.

We were then treated to a sample of bread pudding with chocolate sauce – yum yum!

For our main chocolate selection, we ordered the brownie sundae – a warm, homemade brownie topped with ice cream, whipped cream, hot fudge and a cherry:

Brownie sundaes are usually pretty standard, so I look at brownie quality and overall yumminess – highly scientific, I know.  The Chocolate Room’s sundae was superb, with the fudgey, flavorful and moist brownie perfectly warmed (scrumptiously gooey, but not so hot as to melt the ice cream immediately).  We chose the Sumatran coffee ice cream to accompany the brownie – the ice cream was homemade, dense and creamy.  The whipped cream and fresh cherry (no DayGlo red here!) completed the delectable dish.

The Chocolate Room is a must try for all of you chocolate lovers out there.  Both the hot chocolate and the brownie sundae were sinfully rich and bowl-lickin’ good.  The atmosphere encourages lingering and over-gorging on sweets, sweets and more sweets.  If you’re ever in the Park Slope area, give it a try!

   Ummm, you'd have to pull me out of there by the jaws of life. Because my butt wouldn't fit out the door after I was done at this place. Yum!

   I've been to the other location but now I live closer to this one. I agree that their desserts are very yummy. I think a visit might be in order this holiday season

    Dear NoshGirl, I love your pictures and your blog design! Very cute theme. I too love chocolate, and would love to try this place. I live in Boston, but frequently take the Boltbus to NYC…this will have to go on my ever expanding list of places to visit! thank you : )
