Event: miniPop Tasting at Popbar

Events / Giveaways / Partnerships

Yesterday, I had the yummy opportunity to preview popbar‘s latest product – the miniPop!  I’d never tried a popbar before, so I was really excited for this event.  Who doesn’t love food on sticks!

popbar is relatively new, with the store opening only earlier this year.  It offers indulgent, artisan-made desserts that are free of preservatives and artificial colors or flavorings.  The first thing I noticed was how cute they were – almost too pretty to eat! (Hey, I said almost).

With popGelato flavors like hazelnut, coffee, almond and mint and popSorbetto flavors such as blood orange, mandarin, grapefruit and melon, I had a tough time choosing my first miniPop sample.  Based on an employee recommendation, I tried the giandula – a chocolate and hazelnut blend.  But wait, there’s more – I added dippings and “poppings” – a dark chocolate dip with pistachios and a white chocolate drizzle:

And how did this combination turn out?  Well, uh – I remembered to take a picture of the finished pop right about…..NOW:

I think I’ve made myself clear.

For my second miniPop, I went “summery” with a melon sorbetto with white chocolate dip and coconut popping (first picture).  The result was sweet, juicy, not overly-cloying, and refreshing.

popbars are made fresh daily in small batches of 24 – there’s an open kitchen in the back where you can see them being handmade.  Their newest pop size, the miniPop, is sold in boxes of 25 or more for weddings, showers, or just a Tuesday night in (oh wait, is that just me?)

If you’re ever in the West Village area, pop on by to popbar and treat yourself to one (or two, or three). 🙂

What a great concept. People in SF would go crazy over something like this. The pop you selected looks great – so sad we missed this place when we were there.
