It’s that time of the week again! Here’s your fun fact for this Friday:

Meringue hates humidity.  If you’re trying to whip up some egg whites during a downpour, consider yourself warned! If you’re super serious about your meringue, consider purchasing a de-humidifier (I have not yet done this myself)

Veggie Resolution #5: Guacamole

April 28, 2011 By: Serena Category: Recipes, Veggie_Resolution

Ooookay, so I know avocado is technically a fruit, not a veggie – but considering I’ve stalled on Veggie Resolution #5 (and that included the disappointing Baba Ganoush), let’s not get too technical here.

Guacamole is one of those easy-to-make, highly customizable dishes.  I looooove avocados like crazy, so naturally guacamole is a major WIN! for me.  Even though you don’t technically need a guacamole recipe, I wanted to give David Lebovitz‘s version a try.

Burgers: Goodburger

April 27, 2011 By: Serena Category: American, Burgers

I was recently invited to try a burger, shake and fries courtesy of goodburger.  As it was a sponsored meal (a rare occurrence – this was my first!), I’m not giving a rating – you can see my sponsored meal policy here.  Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get started, shall we?

American: Exchange Bar & Grill

April 25, 2011 By: Serena Category: 1_Apple, American

The day has come – Exchange Bar & Grill has the dubious honor of receiving the first 1 Apple review.  I really wanted to like this place – they use a real “drink market” concept, where drink prices fluctuate based on supply and demand (i.e. how many people order a particular drink).  The business nerd in me was super-excited to witness this in real time!  Unfortunately, the rest of the Bar & Grill was a bit disappointing…

Fun Fact Friday

Happy Friday!  Yay, we made it!  I’m kicking off the weekend with a new series.  Every Friday I’ll post a little fun fact or tidbit that will (usually) be food related.  You may know some of these facts, but hopefully some of them will be new to you!  So let’s get started, shall we?

To get rid of the stinky smell on your hands after handling garlic or onions, rub your fingers against stainless steel under running water (your kitchen sink or a spoon could work).  The smell will come right off!

Have you tried this before?  I use this tip all the time – it really works!

French: Ladurée Macarons

April 21, 2011 By: Serena Category: Dessert, French

A friend recently went to Paris and brought me back some Ladurée macarons.  French macarons are one of my faaaaaaave desserts, and these are the macarons of macarons.  So I just HAD to do a little photo shoot for these scrumptious bites before, um, scarfing them down.

From left to right, the flavors are: (more…)

Weekend Trip to New Orleans

April 20, 2011 By: Serena Category: American

This past weekend I took a short trip to New Orleans, and what a yummilicious time I had!  I stuffed myself silly – here are some of the highlights:

Hello, is this thing on?

Oh hi, everyone!  My name is NoshGirl, and it’s been a week since my last blog post.  While the responsibilities of a full-time job and a lil’ side trip to NOLA (food pictures coming soon!) kept me from blogging as much as I’d like, I’m back, ya’ hear me? I’m baaaaack! Today I’d like to share a hidden find in Midtown – Menchanko Tei.

The storefront is a little nondescript, but what drew my eating buddy and me in was the promise of an authentic noodle dish that was the food of sumo wrestlers.  I mean come on, how could we resist that?

Italian: I Coppi

It’s always a pleasant surprise to happen upon a hidden gem in NYC.  Space and real estate are a hot commodity here – some of the best meals can be found at hidden holes-in-the-wall.  However, I’m definitely not one to turn my nose up at quaint ambiance and cozy decor.  With a secret outdoor dining area and scrumptious Italian fare,  I Coppi won me over pronto; I had a truly delightful meal here!

Eating buddy and I first started with the Crostoni Di Taleggio E Fichi – grilled Tuscan bread with melted taleggio cheese and figs, served on a baby arugula salad: (more…)

Belgian: Le Pain Quotidien

I’d like to tell you about an old standby of mine – Le Pain Quotidien.  Le Pain is a chain, with locations all over NYC, as well as California, DC and other locations in the US as well as around the world.   While chains can sometimes be hit-or-miss (I’m not naming any names here, but you know what I’m talking about) – I’ve always been pleasantly satisfied with Le Pain.
