Belgian: Le Pain Quotidien

Eating Out

I’d like to tell you about an old standby of mine – Le Pain Quotidien.  Le Pain is a chain, with locations all over NYC, as well as California, DC and other locations in the US as well as around the world.   While chains can sometimes be hit-or-miss (I’m not naming any names here, but you know what I’m talking about) – I’ve always been pleasantly satisfied with Le Pain.

I usually favor the 2 soft boiled eggs with bread platter – I know, I know – I can soft boil eggs at home. But I don’t. So there you have it.   The real highlight of the platter anyway is the bread, which I top with a healthy dollop of Le Pain’s own praline spread.  OMG.  This stuff is heavenly!!

The other day I decided get a little wild, and I ordered something different.  I know, watch out for this one.   I ordered the Tuscan Platter  (first picture) – labeled as “Good for Sharing” (I skipped that day in pre-school, so it was all MINE!)  Featuring shaved parmesan, prosciutto, olive tapenade, basil pesto, sundried tomato, ricotta and topped off with a hearty helping of bread – this was AWESOME. I mean come on, look how much ricotta I got!

So here’s a bit of a secret – I’m not a fan of sun-dried tomatoes.  I know, a travesty, right?  Luckily enough, I was able to pick those off my plate fairly easily.  I quickly devoured the rest.  This platter was deeeelish!

If you’re lucky enough to live near Le Pain Quotidien, give the Tuscan Platter a try.  My only gripe is that I didn’t have enough bread to eat with the ricotta AND with the praline spread.  Such problems, such problems…

I'm not a sun-dried tomato fan either. The flavor is too…intense? I think that's the word I'm looking for. Ricotta though, YUM.

I am a SD tomato fan, but my husband hates them! He says "why would you want to eat rotten shriveled tomatoes that fell off the vine? Gross." Obviously that's not really how it works but that's how it works in his mind… 🙂

oh, i LOVE the soft boiled egg platter. I think it's the egg cup that makes the whole experience feel so . . . French.

Haha I really do love le pain also…there's one right down the street from my apartment and I've definitely known to stop in every so often! Their fig tartine is also AMAZING.

Congrats on winning the MarxFoods competition! You definitely deserved it!

Joanne – I love the fig tartine as well! I usually alternate between the tartine, the soft boiled eggs, and the Tuscan platter.

I get the bread basket – as a meal. They have all those fun nutella flavors, and it's basically just chocolate and carbs for breakfast! I can't go often, or else I'd be 200 pounds, but it is SO good. Glad you're a fan too!

I usually have the same problem with the bread, but it´s easy to fix 🙂

I love sundried tomatoes, specially with mozzarella in a sandwich, divine.

I was in NY last week for first time and just 5 days and I was lucky to find Le pain quotidien in Central Park after a rainy day and order a hot chocolate, amazing!!!
