Taking Questions!

November 29, 2011 By: Serena Category: NoshGirl

Questions.  Sometimes they pop up out of nowhere (“Where can I get a really delicious red velvet cupcake at 12:37am?”).  Other times I have questions when watching TV – “Does Samantha Brown ever get lonely, even though her job sounds really awesome?” or on the subway (“Should I get an e-reader?”  The answer is yes, I got one on Black Friday).  Satisfying when they are answered, frustrating when not – we’ve all had questions from time to time.

How many cupcakes can I cram into my purse before someone takes notice?

I thought I’d try something new on the blog, and open it up for questions.  They could be silly or serious, about eating or blogging or my favorite cuisine, or taking photos.  Ask away, and I will answer them in an upcoming post(s).  If they are too personal, I won’t (consider yourself warned, ha!). Reeeeeeeeeeeady………….GO!

What questions do you have for me?

Malaysian/Singaporean: Laut

November 28, 2011 By: Serena Category: 4_Apples, Malaysian, Singaporean

Recently, I had the opportunity to try Laut, located in the Union Square area, for the first time.  Laut is the world’s first Michelin-starred Malay restaurant – quite an honor!  As I’m a big fan of all cuisine Malaysian and Singaporean, I was so excited when an eating buddy suggested we try this place out.

We ordered two starters – the first was the Five Spice Pork Roll:

Happy Wednesday, Noshers!!  Why is it happy? Well, for me, today is my FRIDAY!  Is today your Friday as well? :)   Today I’m providing a recipe round-up of some of the scrumptious things I’ll be making in preparation for Thanksgiving.  I haven’t tackled a turkey yet – after all, sides and dessert are my favorite parts of the meal!  So I’ll be making these things:

First, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade wouldn’t be complete without some piping hot cinnamon rolls - heavy on the cream cheese frosting, please!!

Then, I’ll be making one of my faaavorite sides – is this your favorite side as well?

Last week I attended a delicious chocolate event, hosted by none other than Green & Black’s!  After the awesome event Green & Black’s put together last year, I knew I was in for a scrumptious treat.  This year was a small, intimate affair – about 10 bloggers, tops.  In addition to samples of the 10+ luscious chocolate varieties (first photo), we were treated to a cheese, fruit and prosciutto collection (mmmmmm):

Artisanal CheeseClock Collection!

November 21, 2011 By: Serena Category: Cheese

If you’ve been following along with my foodie adventures, you’ll know by now that my favorite food in the world is CHEESE.  Yup, I can truthfully say that I’ve never met a cheese I didn’t like!  So when I saw an online coupon a few months ago for use with Artisanal’s Cheese Collections, I had to purchase it.  It was the right thing to do, wouldn’t you agree?

I perused and perused the list – tough job, but someone’s got to do it – before finally deciding on the Artisanal CheeseClock Collection, which arrived in this lovely basket:

Vietnamese: Nha Trang

November 14, 2011 By: Serena Category: 2_Apples, Vietnamese

One perk of living in downtown NYC is ready access to cheap and good pho.  For the uninitiated, pho is Vietnamese noodle soup, with rice noodles, mint, basil, beansprouts and usually beef.  I usually head to what I refer to as “Pho Row” – a stretch of 5-6 Vietnamese restaurants on the outskirts of Chinatown.  Here,  a big bowl of steamy, hearty pho will keep your belly full for about $5 – not too shabby!  On a recent chilly night, I visited one of my faves of the “row” - Nha Trang.

Of course at that bargain price, utensils and napkins are strictly self-serve only, as you can see here: (more…)
