Mmmm, burgers. Growing up here in the US, a patty of beef (or turkey, or other meat) sandwiched between two carb slices has always been a way of life, a source of culinary comfort if you will. So I knew for my very first Scrumptious Sandwich Resolution, I knew I needed to make this recipe for Thai Turkey Burgers that I saw on my friend Kim’s blog. There are several things I liked about this recipe:
1. I love Thai food
2. These burgers look super easy to make!
3. It has veggies in it, so along with lean turkey, it could be quite a healthy burger option.
You will need:
- 1 package of lean ground turkey (~ 1 lb)
- 1 carrot, shredded
- 3-4 green onions, minced
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp chili garlic sauce
- 2 tbsp natural peanut butter (I had almond butter, so I used that. PB would have been much more appropriate though!)
- freshly ground salt & pepper
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- King’s Hawaiian Sweet rolls (or your choice of bun – I couldn’t find mins, so I made 4 regular sized burgers)
- Toppings of your choice (chili/cilantro mayo, mixed greens, Sriracha, etc.)
Except for the turkey and rolls, I had all these things in stock- I love when recipes turn out that way!
1. Round up all of your ingredients (except the rolls and optional toppings, duh). Dump them all in a mixing bowl. Smoosh together with a fork, spoon or your hands.
2. Form small patties from your turkey mixture. Cook on a medium-high grill for about 3 minutes per side (making sure it’s cooked through!).
3. Slide them into their buns and “dress” them up with your favorite toppings! Per Kim’s reco, I made some cilantro-chili mayo (chop up fresh cilantro, and mix it up with some mayo and chili-garlic sauce). Deeeelish!
These burgers were really delicious, indulgent with the sauce, and healthy (I used lean turkey and light mayo). The spicy kick just hit the spot. And – I made these burgers in about 10 minutes. If you’re looking for a super quick, simple, healthy and delicious meal, definitely give these burgers a try!
