Holiday Giftguide + GIVEAWAY: HelloFresh!

Events / Giveaways / Partnerships

Welcome to Day 2 of the Big Apple Nosh 2012 Holiday Gift Guide + Giveaway!  Today I’m excited to share my second gift guide item with you – HelloFreshHelloFresh is a grocery delivery service specifically geared towards healthy cooking at home.  Each week, HelloFresh customers get a box chock full of fresh ingredients  AND recipe cards – enough to make three meals for two.  These recipes are meant for the busy professional – each takes less than 30 minutes to prepare, and are specially formulated by chefs working out of the kitchen at Aquavit (yum!).

I was really intrigued by the HelloFresh concept; it allows me to cook (which, ahem, I LOVE to do!) even when I don’t have time to shop for fresh ingredients after a long day at work.  Calorie counts are listed on each recipe card, and the meals are wholesome and healthy.  Additionally, the ingredients are all portioned out for you, making it even easier for you to get right to the cooking.  All the fun and minimal prep, sounds good to me!

HelloFresh provided me a with a box to review – when it arrived, the ingredients were clearly labeled by recipe and kept cool by ice packs:

The recipes for my week were Turkey Burgers with Sriracha Mayo, Smoked Paprika Chicken with Avocado and Barley Salad, and Spicy Shrimp Linguine with Chili and Sundried Tomatoes.

True to name, the ingredients were super fresh – the produce was beautiful and vibrant; the avocados were perfectly ripe, the tomatoes unbruised.  Over the course of a week, I made each of the three recipes and because each recipe served two, I not only had dinner but leftovers for lunch the next day.  Each of the recipes was fantastic – although if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the spicy shrimp linguine (ingredients in the first photo):

HelloFresh is fantastic for those who want to cook but just don’t have the time to prep and shop – all of that is done for you.  The recipes change every week and are also great ways to learn how to use unfamiliar spices and love them! The company now delivers to the entire East Coast and then some (see this map for delivery areas) and are quickly working on expanding their delivery area.  They are also quite active on their Facebook and twitter accounts – it was fun to see so many different people all preparing the same meal and how creative they got with it!

But don’t take my word for it – enter to win a HelloFresh box for yourself!  If you don’t live in the delivery area, you can still enter and gift the box to someone who does 🙂

For your chance to win, enter via the Rafflecopter widget below.  This 52 second video provides a tutorial on how to enter a giveaway for Rafflecopter newbies! There are 6 methods of entry, with the first method (commenting on this blog post) being mandatory and the rest just extra gravy!

I love this! I love cooking but thinking of a recipe, buying the ingredients, AND prep is a lot for a weeknight. Thanks for the coupon code! Will definitely have to try Hello Fresh this month between the unhealthy eating at holiday parties!

Since I started training for my first 1/2 marathon I’ve been totally slacking when it comes to planning meals. My husband would love to have something for dinner other than salads and sandwiches during the week!

Oh heck yes! This sounds amazing and something that I would totally do if I lived on the East Coast (the shopping and sectioning and wondering what to do with lots of leftover ingredients kills me!). Since I don’t then I would totally send it to my bestie, a foodie and working woman in Philly!

For someone with a crazy long commute, the last thing I want to think about is buying, prepping and cooking all of my ingredients at the end of the day. This is such an awesome idea!

I would keep it for myself, but I would use it to make a dinner for my fiance: he loves when I cook for him (I would give it to him, but he’s not the best cook–he burns water!)

The best thing about summer is breakfast picnics! If there’s a lovely Sunday morning in the summer we pack a nice breakfast of croissants and jam, lemon yoghurt, cold orange juice and fruit (I have to carry it of course to make up for the loss of a Sunday’s lie-in!).We then go for a walk in the hills in the sun, seems like there is no-one else awake in the world, so peaceful, and its wonderful and romantic to lie on a picnic rug in the grass basking in the sun and looking at the beautiful countryside.

Bruce I just started a worm bin with red wigglers and european crawlers I keep them in the basement that drops to high forties to low 50′s is that too cold for the worms they seem to be eating the food scraps but not as quick as I would think I plan on getting some cornmeal and oatmeal to get them started on grain diet plus eggshells as you suggested should I cook the oatmeal or just mix with cornmeal and eggshells uncooked? thanks for the info John

I’d of given it a go. I probably would have liked it though. I tend to enjoy new tastes even if they aren’t delicious, simply because they aren’t the norm. I enjoy your experiments.
