American Museum of Natural History Exhibit: Our Global Kitchen

Events / Giveaways / Partnerships

I’m baaaaack!  Hello, Noshers!  Did you miss me? 🙂  I missed you!  My schedule has been absolutely CRAZY lately – including super delicious (and busy) trips to Charleston and London!  I was super excited because it was my first visit to either of those cities.  I can’t wait to share some of the delicious nosh I had on my trips with all of you, so stay tuned!  But first, I’m excited to tell you about my recent visit to the Our Global Kitchen exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History.  The AMNH is one of my favorite museums in NYC, and an exhibit all about food? Count me in!

Not your ordinary museum exhibit, Our Global Kitchen explored the science, culture, politics and past, current and future happenings of food.  At the very start of the exhibit, an introductory film played on loop and of course I had to stop and watch – mostly to watch the film but partly to sit on these chairs: Continue Reading

Fun Fact Friday

Happy Friday, my food-fanatic friends!  Hope this snow weather isn’t getting you down, wherever you may be reading this from.  What are your plans this weekend?  I will be checking out a foodie event on the Lower East Side tonight.  I’m also super excited to check out the Global Kitchen exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History this weekend – AMNH is one of my favorite museums in the city, and an exhibit all about food sounds right up my alley!  Be sure to check out my Instagram feed for photos live from my visit 🙂

Breakfast: Oatmeals

Eating Out

The Elvis – oatmeal with honey, peanut butter, banana and bacon. YES PLEASE.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’m a bit obsessed with these little shop in the West Village called Oatmeals.  Oatmeals specialized in, you guessed it – pancakes (haha just kidding).  But not just any oatmeal – super crazy delicious concoctions!  We’re talking savory, sweet, cheese, meats, if you dream it, they’ll make it.  I pass by this place quite often, and when I feel like treating myself I will get a “baby bear” sized oatmeal for breakfast (yes, they follow the bear-sized system of ordering).

Oatmeals features steel-cut oats, aka pinhead oats, aka Irish Oats.  I much prefer this variety as I find it somehow heartier – if you have never tried steel-cut oats before, you are missing out!  You can create your own oatmeal masterpiece or order from their pretty extensive menu of sweets and savories.   I usually just order from the menu because I figure they know what they’re doing.  And they do!  Some of my favorites have been:

Dulce de Leche Cheesecake – graham crackers, whipped ricotta, dulce de leche drizzle, cinnamon, brown sugar,  and whipped cream:

Recipe: Brussels Sprouts Salad with Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto

Cooking / Eating In

Happy Monday, Noshers!  How was your weekend? Mine sure was delicious – you may have caught a glimpse of it on my Instagram feed!  Today I’m excited to share with you a recipe I put together for a fresh and tangy salad featuring my favorite vegetable – the Brussels sprout!  You may have seen my other Brussels sprouts posts (here and here), but this is the first time I’ve used Parmigiano Reggiano with this cruciferous cutie.

In my continuing partnership with Whole Foods, I was approached to put together a recipe featuring the “undisputed king of cheese” – Parmigiano Reggiano. As part of their annual celebration of this crunchy, flavorful cheese, Whole Foods will attempt to re-claim the Guinness World Record for “Most Wheel of Parmigiano Cheese Wheels Cracked Simultaneously” this Saturday at 3pm NYC time.  If you find yourself near a local Whole Foods on Saturday, pop in and check it out!

My relationship with Parmigiano Reggiano began at an early age – I was a cheese fan as a wee tot!  This tangy topping was first introduced to my palate in the shredded variety over spaghetti and soup.  I graduated to luscious crumbles served in-wheel at an event in college, and the crunchy tyrosine crystals never fail to disappoint.  So I knew straightaway for my recipe that I wanted to combine Parmigiano with sprouts to create a salad plate of epic deliciousness!  A little prosciutto never hurt anyone either.  Armed with a Whole Foods giftcard in my hot little hands, I set out on a grab-happy food shopping spree.  Want to try this salad out for yourself?

Fun Fact Friday

Edited to add: Oops!  DST actually starts next weekend! I need to start verifying what I see on facebook 😉

Happy Friday!  I’m really looking forward to catching up on some sleep this weekend and welcoming the longer days (woohoo for Daylight Savings Time!).  PLUS I’ll be spending time with the cutest nephew and niece in the world (in my highly unbiased opinion, obviously) – yay!
