New week, new food, Noshers! Today I’m excited to share my eating experience at YUJI Ramen – Test Kitchen with you. The fifth and newest featured vendor at Smorgasburg at Whole Foods‘ Bowery location, YUJI Ramen continues the Japanese trend first started with Rice & Miso Everyday, last month’s vendor! As a huge fan of carbs, especially ramen, I was particularly looking forward to checking this vendor out:
YUJI Ramen, which moved into the Smorgasburg Bowery space in mid-March, offers lunch daily. Specifically, mazemen – dry ramen – yes, you read that correctly! I’m most accustomed to ramen in broth, so I was especially curious to try mazemen.
For other mazemen newbies like myself, YUJI Ramen had a helpful little description:
Flavored oil? Variety of toppings? Sign me up!
Now the tough part was choosing exactly which mazemen ramen I would try. I was tempted by the Salmon and Cheese Mazemen (cured salmon, cheese, lemon) but in the end my love for poached eggs (and bacon. Mmmmm, bacon) won, and I went with the Bacon and Egg Mazemen (smoked bacon, poached egg, kale). And there’s kale so of course that automatically transforms this bowl of carbs into a healthy dish….right?
As you can see from the first photo in this post, YUJI was definitely generous with the hearty, intense bacon and also didn’t skimp on the kale. The poached egg was cooked to perfect wobbly goodness. Breaking the yolk over this dish brought the complex flavors and textures together especially well. My mouth is watering just writing about it!
YUJI Ramen will be the featured Smorgasburg vendor at the Whole Foods Market Bowery location for TWO months (through May 12th), so you should definitely stop by and check it out! I definitely want to try out all of the other mazemen flavors, so perhaps I’ll see you there? 🙂
