Happy Thursday, Noshers! This week has flown by for me – I moved apartments, enjoyed the lovely weather, and received some fun and delicious foodie products in the mail. All-in-all, not too shabby. This weekend will be equally busy, and I am excited to share with you what I will be doing Sunday – stuffing my face with BBQ!! But wait, you can too! This weekend is the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party – one of my favorite annual food events in NYC!
This is the 11th year of the festival – and I’m so psyched to check it out again this year! If I’m in town when the event is taking place, I always try to stop by. The event will feature over 15 pitmasters from all over the country, and the aroma of smoky bbq will be unbeatable! There’s nothing like seeing a whole hog or racks of ribs ready for your consumption. Yum! Entrance to the event itself is free, and each pitmaster’s plate will set you back around $3-8. My recommendation – bring a friend so you can sample more dishes 🙂
In addition to the country’s best BBQ, the block party will feature live music, demonstrations, and awesome events such classes at the Weber Grilling School, where you can learn unique grilling techniques and “test-drive” a Weber grill, making either grilled steak tacos with fresh guacamole or French toast with grilled fruit. Class participants receive a gift bag chock full of grilling goodies! Tickets are $30, and I hope to check out one of the classes. For all my baking experience (and some cooking experience) I am still a grilling novice!
I’ll also be checking out the Alabama Gulf Seafood No Bone Zone, with live oyster shucking and oysters and champagne galore! There’s little that would pull me away from good barbecue at a barbecue block party – unless it’s oysters… Tickets are $40; hope to see you there!
The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party takes place this Saturday and Sunday, from 11a.m. – 6p.m. I will be stopping by on Sunday – will I see you there? 🙂
What’s your favorite barbecue memory?
