Kansas City: Vietnam Cafe (Vietnamese)

Eating Out

One of the things I miss about NYC (specifically, downtown NYC) is good cheap pho.  I’m talking about the authentic, non-frills stuff.  Don’t get me wrong – I’ve lived on the Upper West Side, and there’s not really pho there that isn’t fancy/trendy/overpriced.  But access to phantistic pho (ha ha) was always just a subway ride away.  I was concerned I wouldn’t find the equivalent here in KC – luckily, Vietnam Cafe proved me wrong!  Definitely no frills but delicious, I’ve visited this place several times already. Yum!

The staff at Vietnam Cafe is friendly, quick, and I even got some good-natured ribbing when I ordered an iced Vietnamese Coffee at 7:30pm:

What can I say – caffeine has no effect on me, and Vietnamese iced coffee is delicious.  I downed that stuff and still slept like a baby that night.

Whenever I go for Vietnamese food, I always get the same thing – beef meatball pho (first photo).  Sure, the spongy texture of the meatballs takes a little getting used to, but I love that stuff. Yum!  Vietnam Cafe‘s version didn’t disappoint – the broth was fragrant and hearty, and the noodles a perfect texture.

I also ordered the summer rolls (which they called spring rolls, thoroughly confusing me – anyone want to weigh in?); they were delicious.

If you’re in KC and craving a big bowl of pho, look no further than Vietnam Cafe  – you won’t regret it!

I know/call your summer rolls as spring rolls! I’m from the South though. Maybe it’s a regional thing?

We have a ton of Vietnamese eateries in CA, especially in the Bay Area. It’s always called spring rolls. I’ve never heard of the term summer rolls before. Maybe that’s an NYC thing?

Oh wow, good to know!! Yes, in multiple NYC restaurants I’ve been to, the crispy ones are called spring rolls and the rice paper with shrimp ones are called summer rolls.

Did they have a fried version, and did they call them Winter Rolls? Now I’m craving pho.

Hello. I see that you don’t update your site too often. I know that writing
articles is boring and time consuming. But did you know that there is a tool that allows
you to create new posts using existing content (from article directories or other
blogs from your niche)? And it does it very well.
The new articles are high quality and pass the copyscape test.
