Kansas City: Urban Table (American)

As I’ve mentioned before, the breakfast options in Kansas City do not disappoint.  While every city has its hits and misses, I have lucked out pretty well in the brunch department here.  Additionally, many of the restaurants here take reservations, and even the ones that don’t often lack the 2 hours waits that I’ve become accustomed to in NYC (is it sad that I am sometimes nostalgic for those insane weights?). One of the standouts I’ve found so far is Urban Table, located right outside KC in Prairie Village, Kansas.  By the way, I was at first intrigued by the fact that I crossed state lines so effortlessly here, then I remembered that I did that all the time while in NYC, where I lived, and NJ, where I grew up.  Pretty much the same deal, right?

Urban Table is about twenty minutes from my place, so the times I’ve gone, I call to make a reservation right when I leave the house, for half an hour later. Easy peasy!

KC does not lack for good brunch places – I’ve been to multiple brunch spots here (stay tuned for future write-ups!) and I’ve been pretty impressed with the options for my favorite meal of the day.  One of my local favorites is The Farmhouse, a self described “farm-to-table, tip-to-tail” restaurant.  The Farmhouse works with local farmers in Kansas and Missouri to secure in-season, fresh, locally grown or raised produce and meats.  The result is flavorful, seasonally relevant, and superbly satisfying dishes.  But I admit one of the things I like most about the place is I can bring one of my favorite eating buddies: Continue Reading

Recipe: Roasted Peach Parfait

It’s the end of summer – time to break out the puffer vests and sweaters!  Or at least, it should be.  It appears that Mother Nature didn’t get the memo, as this past weekend was in the 80s here in NYC (not that I’m complaining AT ALL).  One of the benefits of this late summer is seeing produce that would usually be long gone by now at the farmer’s market.  I recently picked up some white peaches and decided to roast and parfait them up.  As a certain loveable donkey in Shrek once said, parfaits are delicious!   This parfait is great for a lazy weekend brunch, or even a “healthy” dessert (not gonna lie, the butter and sugar isn’t exactly super healthy but it sure makes it amazing).
