Juuuust kidding – but who doesn’t like a little Fresh Prince reference every now and again?

This IS a story, however, of an old-school burger joint here in KC that reminds me of one of my favorite slider dives in NJ – White Manna.  Like White Manna, Town Topic in KC is a no-frills, not-dressed-to-impress, counter-top seating only hole-in-the-wall that has won the hearts and stomachs of many.

Whole Foods Stuffed Burgers!

Happy Wednesday, Noshers! Did you have a nice 4th of July weekend? I stayed in the city, and I loved that it was super quiet! The heat is a little sweltering, but I’m sure I’ll be nostalgic for it next January.

Today I’m excited to share a new discovery in one of my favorite food categories – stuffed foods.  Before you snicker, think for a second – ravioli? Mmm.  Dumplings? Yes, please.  Cannoli? Get in mah’ belly. Stuffing? Well, the answer’s in the question for that one, isn’t it.  So when Whole Foods recently debuted its stuffed burgers, I was keen to get my hot little hands on them.  My lovely Whole Foods peeps were kind enough to provide a few for my sampling pleasure – thanks, Whole Foods!

Burgers: BareBurger

Burgers.  Big, messy, juicy burgers.  They call out to me in my sleep, and I lick my grease-laden hands when I devour them. There’s nothing quite like a meaty, sloppy, scrumptious slab of meat sandwiched between two carbohydrate-heavy discs.  I sure do love me a good burger!

I recently visited Bareburger in Greenwich Village, a restaurant that boasts free-range, grass-fed meats.  In addition to the typical beef, turkey and veggie, Bareburger also offered portabella, lamb, elk, bison and ostrich – yum!  Also, you get to choose among a brioche bun, multi-grain roll, iceberg lettuce wrap, a wheat flour rap, or a gluten-free tapioca rice bun.  I admit I don’t know as much about the beef industry as I can, but I do know a tasty burger when I see one.

Burgers: Shake Shack

Have you heard of Shake Shack before? It has quite the (good) reputation here in NYC, but being a New Yorker myself, I’m not sure how renowned it is outside of the NY Metro area.   The brainchild of Danny Meyer, the first (and for years, only) “shack” was located in Madison Square Park, with waits up to 2 hours! There’s even a Shack Cam that you can check out before you make your way over there, to see how long the line is.  In the past few years, Shake Shack has opened up several additional locations, the most recent located downtown, woohoo!
