Oh happy day, Noshers!  Today I’m excited to share the grand opening of Green Dirt Farm Creamery & Terra Vox Tasting Room. I attended their sneak preview last week and I was super impressed with the space, the team, and oh my goodness the CHEESE! I shouldn’t have been surprised, as Green Dirt Farm makes some pretty amazing sheep’s milk cheeses and yogurts that are carried and served by fan favorites such as Whole Foods, Cosentino’s, and  The Farmhouse.  As you can see, there was a ton to choose from – just take a look at those chalkboard menus: Continue Reading

American Cheese Month with Whole Foods + GIVEAWAY!

Happy Tuesday, Noshers!  I know, Tuesday is often a much-maligned day (definitely not the weekend, not Friday, not even the accepted-with-resignation Hump Day.  But there are indeed two reasons to be happy – 1. October is American Cheese Month and 2.  Whole Foods Market and I are helping you celebrate with a GIVEAWAY!!

American Cheese is so much more than the orange slices of youth and yore.  In celebration of this month of cheesy celebration, my friends at Whole Foods asked if I’d be open to checking out several cheeses that they carry from some American cheese makers.  Um, I’m sure you can my answer to that question.  Within the minute (okay, the hour), I rushed over to my closest Whole Foods to check out my American Cheese options.

If you want a quick indication of the variety and diversity of American cheeses, just stop by your local cheesemonger at Whole Foods.  Texture! (soft, crumbly, hard, creamy). Milk! (cow, goat, sheep). Aroma! I could go on and on.   After much discussion with the Columbus Circle location’s cheesemonger, and some generous sampling, I decided on five luscious cheeses to sample.

I began my journey around the cheese plate with an old favorite – Humboldt Fog by Cypress Grove Chevre.   Continue Reading

Fun Fact Friday

french-cheese-board-1Happy FRIDAY, Noshers!  We made it through another week!  The weather here in NYC has definitely take on a bit of a chill; it’s no longer summer anymore :(.  What fun plans do you have in store?

Today’s Fun Fact has to do with my favorite food – cheese.  I stopped by the French Cheese Board last night (a really fun space!) – for today and tomorrow only, The Cheese of Europe is hosting a pop-up shop there, where you can sample French cheeses, butter, and other delicious goodies and purchase some of your own at wholesale prices!  Seriously good deals – I thought they were misprints.

Eating cheese and taking some home for more eating – that’s pretty fun, right? 😉

Happy (almost) Hump Day, Noshers! I’m definitely thankful for a shortened work week.  What did you do this past Labor Day weekend?  I cooked up a storm, including a huge batch of quinoa (I didn’t know it expanded that much – oops), and I’m definitely enjoying the fruits of that labor this week!

American Cheese Month with Whole Foods! + a GIVEAWAY!

Happy Hump Day, Noshers! Today, I’m super excited to write about one of my favorite foods ever – cheese!  And to make this post even more awesome (because let’s face it, a post is already at a baseline level of awesomeness when the topic is cheese), keep reading for an awesome GIVEAWAY!  Woohoo!

As you might have guessed from the title of this post, October is American Cheese Month.  In celebration, the folks at Whole Foods asked if I’d be open to checking out several cheeses that they carry from some American cheesemakers.  I’m sure you can guess what my answer to that question was! So, with a cheese-destined gift card in my hot little hands, I rushed over to my closest Whole Foods to check out my American Cheese options.

A quick perusal of the Whole Foods American cheese section revealed that this was definitely not the American cheese of my youth.  There were soft cheeses, stinky cheeses, washed rinds, goat cheeses, sheeps milk cheeses – the possibilities for my American Cheese plate were endless!  After much deliberation, I decided on four luscious cheeses to sample.
