I was recently chatting with a friend about the amazing weather we’ve been having here in NYC, and I said “Summer is really what makes the city magical… OH and holiday season in the winter. Oh and fall and Central Park, too. And that first day of spring weather!” What can I say, I just love living here. Yes, there are crowds, high prices, and weird “only in New York” things – but I think it’s the only in New York things that make me love this city the most. What’s your favorite thing about NYC?
Last week, I was invited to the (fairly) recently opened Thai restaurant Somtum Der, in the East Village. I had heard good things about it but hadn’t yet had the chance to try it out – so I was happy have the opportunity to do so now! They recently released a new menu item called the Tum Dong Der – a platter with papaya salad in the middle and surrounded by tapas-style Thai accoutrements. I was excited to not only try this new offering but also check out the rest of the menu. For my eating buddy that evening, I invited a friend whose family is of Thai origin and has some knowledge of the restaurant business – we couldn’t wait to get started.
The first thing we noticed was the decor, which was trendy and tasteful, with lots of fresh ingredients and supplies at the bar: Continue Reading
If there’s anything I appreciate when it comes to food (and there are many things I appreciate when it comes to food), it’s the well-thought out tasting menu. A while back, I had an opportunity to partake in the tasting menu at Degustation, and I wasn’t disappointed.
For the uninitiated, Degustation borrows influences from Iberian, French, and American cuisine to create a delicate, nuanced, and altogether satisfying menu. The intimate dining room (the restaurant must have had no more than 25 seats) offers an unobstructed view of the open kitchen. I love open kitchen setups in restaurants and given the option, will always pick a seat with a view of it. So Degustation worked out perfectly for that, as you can see here: Continue Reading
Happy Tuesday, Noshers! I’m SO glad that the weather is finally warming up – it certainly is about time. Today I’m stopping in with a recap of a dinner with Ted Allen I attended a few weeks ago, hosted by Pepcid and Eater.com. Thanks to this little bloggy-blog, I actually had met Ted previously (I’m on a first name basis with him….I don’t know if he is with me…), and it was fun to interact with him once more! Plus, I have been wanting to try Pok Pok Ny for aaaages – so this was the perfect opportunity.
Excuse the grainy phone camera pics…. Continue Reading
Happy Wednesday, Noshers! Today, I’m happy to share my experience brunching at Locanda Verde. Brunch is my favorite meal, and lemon ricotta pancakes are my favorite pancake-type (what, don’t you have a favorite pancake-type too?). So when I heard that Locanda Verde‘s lemon ricotta pancakes were out of this world, I had to try them for myself.
Locanda Verde isn’t located near me by any means, but I’m willing to travel for a good brunch. BUT, if I’m making a trek, I’m definitely sampling more than one dish. So, Continue Reading
