One thing that’s been pretty fun (and delicious) here in Kansas City is the recent rise in popularity of ramen shops. When I lived in NYC, I had my pick of ramen joints, with varying degrees of quality and popularity, from “sure, I’ll pay 6 bucks for izakaya ramen at 2am” to “omgggg Ippudo best ramen EVER!” When I moved to the Midwest last year, I was pleasantly surprised with my go-to ramen joint here in KC, the relatively new Columbus Park Ramen shop. Their tonkatsu ramen is the bomb! However, recently Shio Ramen Shop opened up, and I knew I had to try it out. So which noodles reigned supreme? Read on to find out. Continue Reading
Happy FriYAY, Noshers! I don’t know about you, but this has felt like the longest week ever. I flew to NYC for about 36 hours last weekend (our original flight was canceled so the trip was even shorter than expected!) for some fun plans/Mother’s Day festivities, and I’m definitely paying for it in exhaustion this week! But have no fear, Friday’s here – which means it’s almost the weeeekend! I thought I’d kick off this much-needed two days off with my delicious dining experience at Columbus Park Ramen Shop. Cue mouth watering now… Continue Reading
Happy Wednesday, Noshers! Today I’m deliciously excited to share a fun new find at Whole Foods. Sun Noodle, the noodle producer that supplies ramen to top noodle bars like Momofuku, Ivan Ramen and Slurp Shop, now offers pre-packed RAMEN KITS!!!
The ramen kits come in three varieites, shoyu, miso, and “kaedama” (which, for the initiatied, is what you say to add a second helping of noodles to your remaining broth. Mmmm….). The kits are MSG-free and available at all NYC Whole Foods Market locations, the Portchester, NY, store, and select New Jersey locations. Continue Reading
New week, new food, Noshers! Today I’m excited to share my eating experience at YUJI Ramen – Test Kitchen with you. The fifth and newest featured vendor at Smorgasburg at Whole Foods‘ Bowery location, YUJI Ramen continues the Japanese trend first started with Rice & Miso Everyday, last month’s vendor! As a huge fan of carbs, especially ramen, I was particularly looking forward to checking this vendor out:
In response to my glowing, 4-apple review of Ippudo, a reader suggested Hide-Chan in midtown as a worthy contender. Combine this endorsement with a mention of Hide-Chan’s black garlic ramen from another buddy, and I was intrigued. I do love my carbs, yes. But a ramen joint worthy of Ippudo’s ranks? Did such a place really exist? I was determined to find out.
