Happy Thanksgiving!

How I’llΒ  be feeling later today πŸ˜‰

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!Β  I snapped the above shot of the PillsburyΒ dough boy at last year’s Macy’sΒ Thanksgiving Day parade (we’re pretty close to the parade route).Β  While we’re skipping the parade this morning to volunteer at our local senior center instead, last night we watched all the balloons get inflated – which I actually think is more fun than watching the parade! And later today, I’ll be ready to stuff myself silly :). What about you?

A Very Big Apple Nosh Thanksgiving

Cooking / Eating In

Happy post-Thanksgiving Hump Day, Noshers!Β  Well, “happy” is taken with a grain of salt following a shortened work-week, isn’t it? Today I wanted to share some Instagram images of the Nosh family Thanksgiving.Β  Every year, my extended family gathers at my aunt’s place for a gut-busting meal of traditional Turkey-day dishes as well as our “fusion” Asian additions.Β  This year was no exception.Β  As is tradition, you can see in the first photo that my Uncle H is in charge of carving the turkey and the whole roast baby suckling pig (yes, we get a turkey AND a whole pig), much to the delight of the kidsters.

All the food is set up on my Aunt F’s kitchen island – I couldn’t fit it all in one photo, but you get the idea.Β  Clockwise from the left corner, that is Chinese mushrooms, noodles, turkey, mixed roasted vegetables, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, the very edge of the container containing homemade Swedish meatballs, asparagus, cranberry sauce, roasted baby pig, hoisin sauce, and shrimp: Continue Reading

Redux Recipe Post: Salted Caramel Pie!

Cooking / Eating In

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving, Noshers!Β  Ever since I posted this recipe for salted caramel pie two years ago, it has been one of the most-searched posts on the BAN blog.Β  Considering I won a company bake-off with it and the fact that it’s SUPER EASY, I thought it would be perfect for those procrastinators among you who, like myself, are still searching for that perfect Thanksgiving dessert.Β  Enjoy!

PS – You still have until midnight tonight to enter to win Top of the Rock tickets and dining cash!Β  If you haven’t entered yet, what are you waiting for? If you already have entered, you can still gain a new entry today via twitter! Good luck, y’all!Β  Hope to see a few lucky Noshers at the Top of the Rock!

I had previously mentioned that I made a salted caramel pie for the Pie Party Live potluck, and a few readers asked me to share the recipe – so here you are! I first saw this recipe in my latest copy of Food & Wine magazine, who in turn was given the recipe from simplethings sandwich & pie shop in LA. With only 7 ingredients and a minimum of steps, I know this pie had the potential to be easy and delicious. And I was right! It was so fun and exciting when a few foodie personalities I “knew” online came up to me during the party to tell me how much they liked the pie. Would you like to try some salted caramel pie for your own? You won’t regret it!

Happy (early) Thanksgiving!

Events / Giveaways / Partnerships

It is the day before my favorite holiday of the year – Thanksgiving!Β  My family takes this holiday seriously, not only as a legitimate excuse to bust a gut with a third slice of pie but also to reflect on things for which to be thankful. One of the things I’m thankful for this year is all of you reading the Big Apple Nosh blog and offering your comments, conversations via twitter and likes on the BAN Facebook page! You guys are awesome – so THANK YOU! πŸ™‚

I thought about putting together a Thanksgiving recipe round-up like I did last year, but I am relying on old-standbys – namely, the oh-so-popular and oh-so-easy salted caramel pie! Have you tried making this yet? What are you waiting for?

Thanksgiving Recipe Round-Up!

Cooking / Eating In

Happy Wednesday, Noshers!!Β  Why is it happy? Well, for me, today is my FRIDAY!Β  Is today your Friday as well? πŸ™‚Β  Today I’m providing a recipe round-up of some of the scrumptious things I’ll be making in preparation for Thanksgiving.Β  I haven’t tackled a turkey yet – after all, sides and dessert are my favorite parts of the meal!Β  So I’ll be making these things:

First, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade wouldn’t be complete without some piping hot cinnamon rolls – heavy on the cream cheese frosting, please!!

Then, I’ll be making one of my faaavorite sides – is this your favorite side as well?
