I recently received a discount code for 50% off brunch at Open Door Gastropub – and let’s face it; I love a good deal! I’ve passed by Open Door many a time. From the sidewalk, it looks like any normal gastropub. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in for brunch and saw a huge dining area in the back. My eating buddy and I perused the menu – we had about 8 selections to choose from:
The selections ranged from $11 to $17 (for the steak and eggs), and each entree came with a cocktail or juice – woohoo! I decided to stick with the classics and go with the Eggs Benedict:
Open Door’s Eggs Benedict was pretty standard, but perfectly acceptable – rich, creamy Hollandaise, perfectly poached eggs, and thick cut bacon. The home fries were a little mushy for my liking, but that might just be a personal preference thing.
Eating buddy ordered the Pear & Walnut French Toast, with cinnamon cream. I don’t usually order sweet brunch items, but I really liked this dish! The thick cut, stuffed French toast was soft and pillowy, and the tang of the jelly prevented the overall dish from being cloyingly sweet. I admit I liked this much better than eating buddy did.
Open Door isn’t the best brunch place in the world, but it is not bad especially if you have a 50% off coupon. If you’re in the FiDi neighborhood, it’s worth at least a stop-by.
