Melt Bakery was next on my list of the yummy eats at Hester Street Fair. Founded by Julian Plyter and Kareem Hamady (according to their nifty website), Melt Bakery offers ice cream sandwiches in unique flavors. This past weekend, I had five flavors to choose from:
1. The Classic is your old standby – vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate chip walnut cookies, according to Melt-man (I’m wondering if it was perhaps Julian or Kareem), it is the old dependable to consume right before bedtime. Ahhh, I wish I had this available right before bedtime!
2. The Cocoa Daddy melds salted caramel ice cream with gooey chocolate brownie squares. I LOVE anything salted caramel, so I was tempted to get this one.
3. The Belle features peach ice cream with brown butter bourbon shortbread. Well, if there’s one thing I like, it’s brown butter. And shortbread. And throw some bourbon on there as well. Okay, I guess that’s three things.
4. The Kareem – the “mystery flavor” of the day, pairs pistachio ice cream with pistachio-rosewater baklava. I was tempted to try this one, as I love puff pastry; sadly, I’m not the biggest pistachio ice cream person.
So many options, so little stomach space. I asked my favorite food question of the Melt-man: “What’s your favorite?” The answer was:
the Jackson! (first photo) With mango lassi yogurt surrounded by soft, chewy cardamom cookies, the Jackson sounded heavenly. Melt-man gave me a fresh sandwich from their freezer – the mango ice cream was a lot more mango-colored than the clay models featured above – which were quite impressive, I admit.
I took a few bites before remembering to take a picture; you can see where I tried to hide my telltale bites on the right side! Melt Bakery switches up its unique flavor combinations regularly, and I look forward to trying more of their delicious concoctions.
