Over the past few years, Australian coffee culture has made its way to the states – and along with that, some solid brunch and cafe options. One of these gems is Bluestone Lane, whose locations are popping up all around NYC (and the West Coast…and Pennsylvania, apparently!).  Bluestone Lane offers an extensive coffee and beverage menu, and its cafes are a solid brunch choice.  I recently visited the West Village cafe, which was packed! Thankfully (for everyone involved because hangry me is um, not super fun), we were able to be seated right away.

I ordered the brekkie board, which was perfect for an indecisive eater as myself – a half portion each of the collective granola (Husk Bakeshop granola of toasted oats, coconut chips, seeds & nuts with Greek yogurt, citrus curd & seasonal fruit) and the avocado smash on Balthazar toast w/ heirloom cherry tomatoes, feta, sunflower sprouts & EVOO.  Both were delicious, and despite being half portions, I felt that each half of my brekkie was exceedingly generous.

I also ordered a beet latte, made with dehydrated beet powder and finished with a dusting of cocoa. I admit I ordered this because I was intrigued (and wanted a pink drink), but I was pleasantly surprised. If you like beets, you’ll find the beet latte very satisfying – if not, it might be a bit too beety for you.

My eating buddy ordered the warm coconut quinoa and oat porridge with seasonal berries, banana and  Husk Bakeshop granola and Greek yogurt.  This dish looked equally appetizing, though I did like the “not ready for commitment” element of my selection 🙂

Bluestone Lane is opening a new location in my neighborhood soon, and I’m counting down the days.  It is fantastic for a sit-down, lazy brunch (the cafe locations that is – some are only coffee shops) or just a quick pick-me-up.  Give it a try and let me know what you think!
