Not to be confused with Corner Bistro in NYC, where one can get a pretty stellar burger without burning a hole in your wallet, KC’s very own The Corner Restaurant offers some solid brunch fare.  I recently checked it out – it was packed on a Saturday morning – and was not disappointed.

Some of my DIY favorites, such as toad in a hole, made an appearance.  However, I only had eyes for the swoonin’ biscuit – a house made biscuit with black peppercorn sausage gravy, farm fresh eggs, and a hashbrown patty.  Come to mama!  I got the half order (one biscuit versus two) because I figured that was enough of a (delicious, delicious) cholesterol bomb.  And I was right. Mmmmm.

My eating buddy ordered the (relatively) healthier smoked salmon Benedict with caper cream cheese. Thankfully this dish also came with a hashbrown patty – because I sure wasn’t sharing mine! Mmmm.  Other than the slightly disconcerting, perfectly round poached eggs, there were no complaints on this dish.  The smoked salmon was perfectly loxy (an official term, I’m told), the hollandaise rich and luxurious, and the side greens offering just a hint of well intentioned but inaccurate guilt assuagement.

This place gets pretty backed on the weekends, and they don’t take reservations! So come early or come late, or be prepared for a wait.  Check it out and let me know what you end up ordering!
