The next stop on my quest (to try ALL the cupcakes in NYC) was The Cupcake Stop. Combining my love of food trucks and cupcakes, The Cupcake Stop offers a variety of flavors, including black-and-white, fluffernutter, rocky road, and tiramisu. A purist, I went with my favorite – the red velvet.
While I have a very clear picture in my head of the perfect red velvet cucake (moist and flavorful cake with dense cream cheese frosting), I’ve had a hard time finding it. One of my preferred cupcake shops uses buttercream icing for its red velvet, of all things – unbelievable! Others have dry or flavorless cake. The Cupcake Stop’s red velvet looked promising – thick frosting and moist-looking cake. I was a little skeptical of the sprinkles, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I took an excited bite and…
…it was fantastic! The frosting was decidedly cream cheese with a slightly tangy flavor, and hefty to boot. The cake was moist and not crumbly at all. I dare say it is my favorite red velvet cupcake in the city….so far.
I only tried the red velvet, but I hope to return soon to sample some other flavors (and perhaps add another apple to my rating).
Moist and flavorful red velvet cupcake with dense cream cheese frosting. Yum!
